KUCHING: Rabies claimed its 20th victim in the state when a man, aged 42 died of the disease at the isolation ward of the Sarawak General Hospital early yesterday.

The victim from Kampung Sebikar, Puncak Borneo was bitten sometime  in June this year. The man and his daughter were bitten by their pet dog and he sent his daughter to hospital but he did not tell the doctor that he was bitten, too.

The rabies epidemic has spread to all areas throughout Sarawak except Limbang Division since it was detected in June 2016.

The New Sarawak Tribune has tried to contact Dr Cheong Yaw Liang, head of public health section, Ministry of Local Government and Housing for updates on the disease. He has yet to respond as of press time.
