SPAOH: Longhouse dwellers in Betong district have been urged to vaccinate their dogs against rabies.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state’s fifth phase of anti-rabies operation would be held in the district as well as in Sri Aman and Engkilili beginning July 31 to
Aug 3.
He gave the advice when visiting Rh Henry Ilon in Senunok Paku here on Wednesday.
He said that rabies was a very deadly disease and since its outbreak in 2017 , 18 people had died of it after they were bitten by rabid dogs.
Uggah said the state Veterinary Services Department would be visiting longhouses to offer free vaccination and to remove any strays in the three districts during the operation.
“Please use the opportunity to get your dogs vaccinated. Your dogs will not die after getting the vaccination.”
He added that they should treat the advice seriously as two dogs were tested positive for rabies at a longhouse, Rumah Samueh Adeng, in Engkilili two weeks ago.
Uggah was pleased to note that the 17 Rural Transformation Programme projects for his Bukit Saban state constituency had achieved 88.2
percent implementation rate in 2018.
For this year, another 62 RTP projects have been approved for Bukit Saban. These included 43 from Bukit Saban constituency and 19 from the Betong parliamentary constituency which would be implemented in two stages.
Under the first stage, a total of 19 projects which had been tendered out are currently being
implemented.
Earlier, Uggah chaired a meeting of all government departments and agencies involved to learn the progress in the implementation.
He also had a short meeting with the Betong Agriculture/Betong Veterinary Services Departments.
He later visited Rumah Linggie Keling in Sungai Langit layar.
There he announced a RM100,000 grant for this year and a similar amount for next year to construct a retaining wall to protect the 37-door longhouse against
possible hillside erosion.
