KUCHING: It is rafflesia blooming season at Gunung Gading National Park and it is a sight to behold for nature enthusiasts. .

Entering the second day of the blooming season, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said the Rafflesia Tuan Mudae blooming date lasts for five days, starting from Jan 28 until Feb 1. The five-petal flower measures 70 centimetres in diameter.

“It blooms for at least six days; hence the best viewing days are on the first until the third day.

“Unique and pleasing to the eyes, this rare floral specimen is one not to be missed when it showcases its beauty to the world,” it said on a Facebook post, yesterday.

SFC stated that guided walks are compulsory and reminded all visitors to adhere to the park’s standard operating procedures (SOP) at all times while enjoying the flower’s beauty.

Visitors must walk approximately 200 metres or 20 minutes from the national park office to the Rafflesia patch.

Located near the small town of Lundu, Gunung Gading was established as a forest reserve in 1929 and gazetted as a national park in 1983 with a total area of 4,196 hectares.
