MIRI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) has launched the Rahmah Sale initiative in Riam area here to provide essential goods at significantly reduced prices for low-income households.

The event, held at a supermarket on Jalan Riam, was officiated by Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, who is also the Senadin assemblyman.

During the launch, Lee highlighted the programme’s importance in helping vulnerable communities manage the rising costs of living.

“This Rahmah Sale benefits lower-income households as essential goods are sold at prices 30 per cent cheaper than usual. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with customers queuing since morning to purchase these items,” he said.

The initiative, which is part of a monthly programme, ensures that essential items such as rice, sugar, and cooking oil are available at subsidised prices.

Lee emphasised that these sales are strategically held in areas like Tudan and Permyjaya to ensure accessibility for households in high-density neighbourhoods.

“In Senadin, this programme has become a reliable support system, a blessing for many. We hope supermarkets will continue collaborating with us to stock essential goods and make them more affordable for the people,” he added.

Today’s Rahmah sale offered 19 basic necessities, attracting a strong turnout from the community.

The programme aims to provide consistent relief, ensuring that households struggling with high living costs have access to affordable essentials.

Also present at the event was Miri KPDN chief Thomas Chua.
