KUCHING: More than 200 participants have joined the car show event at the Sarawak Motorsport Festival (SMF) 2022 held at Petra Jaya motorsport training circuit, Stadium Sarawak today.

Apart from the car show, motorsport enthusiasts were also treated to an amazing performance from over 100 participants in the track category.

Despite rainfall at noon, fans were undeterred from coming and enjoying the two-day event that was held for the first time in Kuching.

Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) deputy director Rudzaimeir Malek commended the commitment of the organisers for taking the appropriate initiative to cultivate the hobby properly.

“The same goes for the sponsors who support this programme for the benefit of the enthusiasts, especially the youth. A lot has been done to make the programme a success today.

“This is also a good initiative for the community after almost two months of confinement due to the COVID-19 epidemic,” he said when officiating at the SMF 2022 today.

SMF organising chairman Andy Chong Kong Fatt said that the organising of such an event is to unite all motorsport enthusiasts to promote a healthy motorsport culture available throughout Sarawak.

“We promote a safer environment to showcase our car culture.

“With this event, we also hope that relevant parties will support us by helping to provide an infrastructure or platform that is more suitable and good for us so that we can make the best use of it,” said Chong.

On the same note, Kuching Automotive Raddest Show (KARS) organising chairman Adibazli Affendi said that this event would highlight the motorsport industry so that it could be further developed in the future.

“If SMF can attract motorsport enthusiasts on a large scale, we have the potentials to get a permanent and bigger race track as well as support from the government.

“Hopefully this event can be included as an annual event in the state’s calendar just like the Borneo Music Festival and so on. That is our ultimate goal,” he said.
