KUCHING: The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) is intensifying its efforts to raise public awareness about the dangers of online scams and how to protect themselves from falling victim to cybercrime.

MCPF chairman See Chee How said the foundation plans to organise an awareness forum in Sarawak to help the public become more informed about these threats.

He said the forums aim to provide up-to-date information and practical guidance in facing the challenges of cybercrime, as well as to enhance individual cybersecurity.

“The forum will be held in both English and Malay. The exact date has not yet been confirmed as we are awaiting confirmation from the Premier, who also wishes to attend the programme.

“It will involve Bank Negara, the police, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), and all the banks that support this initiative, and they will share relevant data and information,” he told reporters after a courtesy call on Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday (Aug 21).

See said Abang Johari also gave advice and guidance on the best ways to implement crime prevention programmes.

“The State Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPN) will collaborate with MCPF to ensure that every preventive and safety measure is effectively implemented, ensuring that Sarawak remains a safe and peaceful place for all,” he said.
