KUALA LUMPUR: The rise of the Palestinian people and protest by the international community against the atrocities of the Zionist regime in Gaza a clear sign that Israel is heading towards its downfall, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Sabu.
He said the international community now recognised the Palestinian struggle against the brutality of Israel.
“Enough is enough. People around the world are rising in support of the Palestinian cause.
“Now, only the United States and Britain are supporting Israel while other European countries and non-governmental organisations also stand up to defend the Palestinian people,” the Parti Amanah Negara president said in his speech at the Malaysia Stands with Palestine Rally at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil last night.
The highlight of the programme, attended by over 16,000 people of various backgrounds, was the speech from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the world sees the issue in Palestine not only from a religious point of view, but mainly from the humanity aspect, which requires attention.
The Bukit Mertajam MP said that DAP, through its veteran leader Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, has expressed its commitment, including in Parliament, that all Malaysians, regardless of their religion or race, should support the Palestinian revolution.
Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan also called on the international community to take action to end Zionist atrocities against Palestine.
“The world powers are supporting the Israeli regime, so Malaysia under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must make our voice heard to urge the international community and the United Nations to take action to end the atrocities in Palestine,” he said.
Earlier, chants of ‘Free Gaza’, ‘Long Live Palestine’, ‘Bangkit Gaza’ and ‘Hancur Zionists’, as well as takbir, resounded throughout the Axiata Arena when the event began after the Maghrib prayer.
The rally kicked off with a speech from Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia president Datuk Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus, followed by Palestinian Culture Organisation Malaysia chairman Dr Baderuddin Sayem and a representative from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Lee Chin Wai.
Representatives from other religions in Malaysia also gave speeches at the gathering.
Singer Faizal Tahir, known for his humanitarian-themed songs, then performed the song ‘Assalamualaikum’ and called on the audience to stand in solidarity for Gaza. — BERNAMA
