BAU: Community leaders and village chiefs are reminded to convey information to the people under their care to continue supporting the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.
Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said they were appointed by the state government and their allowances paid by the state.
On their responsibilities, he said the community leaders must manage their communities well according to guidelines issued by the district office.
“The district office will assess their performances based on the KPI (key performance indicator) to determine whether they can be reappointed in future,” he said during a meeting with local community leaders held at the Heritage Refreshment Cafe, Wind Cave here last Friday.
The meeting organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Opar branch, was also attended by Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president Datuk Anthony Nogeh Gombek and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
Harden also urged the community leaders to ensure that villagers were aware of the various government assistance available especially to the B40 and lower income group, especially the less fortunate.
“There are many forms of assistance provided by the Sarawak government through the Welfare Department. It is the role of community leaders to announce such assistance to the people,” he said.
About 50 community leaders, village chiefs as well as members of GPS component parties attended the event.
