KUCHING: The Satok Bazaar Ramadan will be making a comeback during the fasting month after its absence in the previous year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Two other bazaars in Semarak and Sukma Ria, which are under the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), will also be operating.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi revealed that the decision to allow the three Ramadan bazaars to operate was made after obtaining Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s views on the matter.
“The Chief Minister has agreed for the Ramadan bazaars to operate, but traders and the public must follow the safety guidelines set for Covid-19.
“The arrangement of tables will follow clusters (food and beverage group) to avoid the place from being too crowded.”
The Assistant Utilities Minister (Water Supply) also disclosed that the number of spaces for the Ramadan bazaars had been reduced to avoid congestion.
Satok Bazaar Ramadan will have 55 trading spaces available; Semarak Bazaar Ramadan, 32; and Sukma Ria Bazaar Ramadan, 68.
He said the registration process and sale of spaces would be conducted on April 2 at the DBKU auditorium from 8am to 10am for Satok, from 10.30am to 11.30am for Semarak and from 2.30pm to 4.30pm for Sukma Ria.
The three Ramadan bazaars will operate from April 13 to May 12 from 2pm to 7pm.
