SARATOK: A 41-year-old man has been ordered to be remanded for seven days for allegedly raping a secondary school student here.
It was said that the suspect, who is a teacher, was detained by the police after he turned himself in at the Saratok Police Station.
Saratok District Police chief Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mordani Tanin said the whole incident came to light after the Form One student revealed her ordeal to her grandmother.
He said the victim’s grandmother, who was upset after learning what had happened to her grand-daughter, lodged a report at Saratok Police Station.
“Based on the report, the victim told her grandmother that she had sexual intercourse with the suspect five times in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
“The victim reported that the incident occurred at Jalan Sawit, Ulu Roban,” he told reporters.
Mordani said the suspect would be remanded until December 22 to facilitate investigation.
“We have also recorded a conversation with the complainant. She has also been sent to Saratok Hospital and will be referred to Sibu Hospital for further examination,” he said.
“The alleged rape is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code,” he said.
