SELANGAU: The establishment of the RASCOM Development Agency or RASDA is expected to empower the agricultural sector in Sarawak.
At the same time it is expected to reduce the import of livestock feed such as maize from foreign countries.
The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) quoted Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira as saying that through the agency he planned to plant crops that can produce short, medium and long term outcomes.
“We have a lot of land to develop, the only problem is that there is land under SALCRA’s Provisional Lease (PL).
“But for a long time, SALCRA has not developed this area including the Sekuau area and also Sungai Tau and Sungai Arip, Selangau.
“And also some land in the Dijih area that has been given by way of PL to the company and this has become an issue for us. We will discuss this issue in this lab,” he said during the Mini Lab Discussion for the RASDA area under Tamin constituency recently.
He said RASDA was also focusing on plans to provide infrastructural facilities, especially comfortable road assets for the entire area.
According to Gira, the Premier announced the establishment of RASDA on Nov 18 last year with an allocation of RM1.5 billion.
“Although initially RASDA was meant for RASCOM relocation areas such as Sekuau, Nanga Ngungun, Nanga Jagau, and Nanga Tada it was expanded to the Machan, Ngemah, Tamin and Kakus areas.
“Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang who is the Minister of National Unity is the chairman,” he added.
