KUCHING: State Transport Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil has instructed Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and the Health Department to act following reports of rats at the Kuching International Airport cargo terminal.
The issue was one of many raised during a dialogue between Dr Jerip and representatives of MAHB, State Customs Department, MASkargo, Pos Aviation and Sarawak Forwarding Agencies Association (SFAA) here today.
State Customs Senior Assistant Director Sargandang Liman said the matter had been reported to MAHB previously but he claimed that not much action was taken.
He revealed that one of his staff was bitten by a rat three years ago, and they had since taken their own initiative of placing glue traps at the premises.
Dr Jerip asked MAHB and the Health Department to take the issue seriously, adding that the rats were not only hazardous to health but also to aircraft safety.
MAHB Senior Airport Manager Ir Jun Iskandar Murshidi said they would take immediate action while health inspector Anthonia Diwok said they would check and act.
Other issues raised included the poor facilities at the cargo terminal, which is about 35 years old.
