KUCHING: Needy residents of Kampung Semariang, Zone 9 were delighted to receive Hari Raya contributions in the form of clothes, food and beverages from the Youth Community Kuching.
In an exclusive interview with New Sarawak Tribune, Ruqiah, 65, was thankful for the gifts she received.
“I would like to thank the youths for helping us out this year. I am overwhelmed with the help received. Thankfully, thanks to the sincere contribution of our young people, this year’s Raya will not be as gloomy,” she said.
Jasmin Mohamad Hassan, 35, a mother of six, was also touched by the contributions.
“These donations are very helpful to us as we prepare for Hari Raya,” she said.
Jasmin, who earns RM500 a month, hoped more youths would be involved in such a programme to help the needy.
Another grateful person was Rokiah Bujang, 53, who comes from a household of seven and has a special needs daughter.
She said the contribution she received would be a big help during Hari Raya.
“It will definitely ease the burden my family faces. I did not know there is such a caring youth community,” added Rokiah.
Meanwhile, Wan Muhammad Qayyum Wan Zaizodin, 25, leader of the Youth Community, said, “I am happy that the donations channelled to us by the general public can help ease the burden of the needy.”
“The reactions of the community here while receiving aid truly overwhelm me. They make me wonder whether we have done enough here.
“I urge the younger generations to be aware and to care for their surrounding communities.”
