SARIBAS: The current health situation, particularly concerning non-communicable diseases (NCDs), is a cause for concern due to the significant financial burden it places on the government in treating patients.
Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Development, Mohammad Razi Sitam, pointed out that the rise in these diseases, primarily caused by unhealthy lifestyle habits among Malaysians, also exerts immense pressure on the healthcare system.
“Of the reported cases, nearly half, or 50 percent, go undiagnosed, leading to an increased risk of complications because early treatment is not sought.
“Furthermore, as many as 73 percent of deaths in Malaysia result from NCDs attributed to an unhealthy lifestyle,” he stated.
He made these remarks during the celebration of Wellness Month and One Hour Malaysia Clean Up at Dewan Millennia, Debak, held recently.
Razi went on to mention that the federal Ministry of Health (MOH) has taken action through various approaches and strategies outlined in a long-term strategic plan. They have introduced the Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat (ANMS) aimed at fostering a healthier Malaysian population through the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
