THE upcoming re-delineation exercise should aim to harmonise electoral and administrative districts to reduce confusion for residents.

Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said residents in the Mado district face challenges in determining which district council handles specific issues, prompting them to visit multiple locations for assistance.

“In my constituency, N53 Bawang Assan, some polling stations in outlying areas like Tutus, Rassau, Bungan Besar, and Bungan Kecil are part of Mado district, administratively.

“However, polling stations closer to Sibu along Batang Igan fall under Sibu district,” he said when debating in support of the State Budget 2025 here today.

Separately, Wong highlighted the disparities in infrastructure, with areas closer to Sibu well-connected by roads, while remote areas like Rassau, Sungai Pinang, Bungan Besar, and Sungai Kecil remain accessible only by speedboats, which would take up one to two hours.

He urged the Sarawak government to expedite the subsequent phases of link roads to Jalan Kut Muara–Sungai Pinang–Bungan Besar along Batang Igan in Mukah Division.

Wong expressed gratitude to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government for funding Jalan Sungai Bidut–Kampung Tutus–Kampung Sebedil–Kampung Bungan Kecil in Sibu Division, a project valued at RM400 million, with the first phase (RM104.5 million) already completed.
