KUCHING: Rebecca Lu Yann Ru and Regorbert Jalak were crowned Miss Keligit and Mr Belawan respectively in the Keligit-Belawan Pageant held in conjunction with the Belaga Regatta 2023 event.
Both Rebecca and Regorbert took home a cash prize of RM1,200 each among other prizes.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong who officiated at the closing ceremony of the Belaga Regatta, presented the prizes to the winners in Belaga yesterday (Aug 7).
In his speech, Wilson said the Belaga Regatta extends beyond mere water sports, serving as a platform to promote racial unity and harmony, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the people residing in Belaga.
“Therefore, the Belaga Regatta will continue to be held as a biennial event with the main goal of fostering the spirit of camaraderie among the various races and ethnicities,” he said.
Meanwhile, the event also saw the presentation of prizes to the winners of the Decorated Traditional Hut Competition.
Uma Kejaman Neh secured the top spot, while Uma Punan Bah and Uma Aging from Long Daah, won the second and third place respectively.
Wilson also presented the Belaga Regatta overall champion trophy to the Uma Sekapan Panjang team which took the title in rowing boat race category.
