BINTANGOR: The reconstruction of Rumah Labang highlights the Sarawak government’s dedication to the welfare and well-being of its people.

According to Meradong assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, following the 2017 fire that impacted 34 units of the longhouse, the Sarawak government has provided various forms of financial assistance to ease the residents’ burden.

“Among the assistance provided was RM1.397 million from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds, which were allocated to rebuild the longhouse and ensure it was equipped with essential facilities such as water and electricity.

“This included an RTP allocation of RM150,000 this year to cement the front yard of the longhouse, creating a parking area,” he said.

He said this during the Thanksgiving Ceremony for the Reconstruction of Rumah Labang, Sungai Tulai, recently.

Ding also mentioned that each household received RM50,000 in disaster relief funds, totalling RM1.7 million for all 34 units.

The reconstruction of Rumah Labang was fully completed in 2023, following delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
