SPAOH: The rebuilding of shops destroyed in a noon fire on Feb 4 here which affected nine families is being planned.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman yesterday met the affected families and their representatives to discuss on the rebuilding plan.

Also present were Betong deputy Resident Abang Mohammad Abang Trukey, a political secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Richard Rapu and Penghulu Goh Leng Tong.

According to Goh, the victims had unanimously agreed for Uggah to handle the plan.

“They also wanted Uggah to look for a contractor to re-build their shops destroyed in the fire,” he said.

Uggah had earlier on told the fire victims that he would look for a consultant to do the architectural drawings.

“The plan when ready will be forwarded to the Land and Survey Department and the Betong District Council for approval before the construction works can begin,” Goh said.

He hoped that the shops would be ready before Chinese New Year next year.

Uggah and Member of Parliament for Betong Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat had, after the fire, each donated RM40,000 to a fund set up to help the victims.
