KUCHING: Police have issued two summonses on a motorist whose car was carrying passengers perched recklessly on the roof of the car.

A video showing the vehicle carrying passengers in a reckless manner along Jalan Matang had gone viral on Facebook, raising concerns about road safety and the dangers of irresponsible driving.

Padawan district police chief, Superintendent Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, confirmed that the Traffic Enforcement Division had successfully identified and apprehended the driver involved in the incident.

Following a thorough investigation, the driver was issued two summonses.

The first was under Rule 15D LN177/59 of the Road Transport Rules for failing to ensure the safety of passengers.

Additionally, the driver was charged under Section 25 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating the vehicle without a valid driving license.

Mohd Irwan emphasised the importance of road safety, urging the public to refrain from engaging in actions that could endanger not only their own lives but also the lives of passengers and other road users.

“We advise everyone to exercise caution on the roads and to prioritise safety at all times,” he said in a statement.

The viral video has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many users condemning the driver’s behavior and calling for stricter enforcement of road safety laws.
