KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a drastic increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases at 3,747 cases on Sunday (Sept 5), compared to the previous day (2,723 cases).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 3,737 or 99.73 percent of the new cases comprised Category 1 and 2 while there was one case in Category 3, three cases in Category 4, and six cases in Category 5.
Kuching district accounted for the highest number of cases at 1,311; followed by Serian (397); Sibu (254); Betong (214); Samarahan (191); Mukah (151); Pusa (142); Bintulu (129); and Bau (123).
Eighty-two Covid-19 cases were detected at Sri Aman; Song (81); Asajaya and Tatau (75 each); Pakan (72); Miri (66); Saratok (50); Simunjan (49); Tebedu (40); Lundy (33); Lubok Antu (27): Kanowit (26); Dalat (25); Limbang (22); Sarikei and Subis (20 each).
Selangau recorded 17 positive cases; Matu (14); Beluru (12); Kapit (11); Belaga (seven); Kabong and Julau (three each); Lawas and Sebauh (two each); and one case in Meradong.
With this, the state has 130,898 cumulative Covid-19 positive cases thus far.
A total of 2,354 of the new cases are individuals who had close contact with positive cases, 417 cases are individuals in existing clusters, 408 cases from screening of symptomatic individuals at health facilities, 564 cases from other screenings at health facilities, three were Import A case from individuals returning from Taiwan, Singapore, and Solomon Island, and one was Import B cases from individuals returning from Selangor.
On another note, the committee said there were 1,769 new recoveries who were discharged from hospitals and low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs) statewide.
This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases to 100,126 or 76.49 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak. There are still 29,993 active cases remaining.
