Record seven deaths, 323 positive cases May 19

KUCHING: Sarawak registered a record high of seven Covid-19 deaths and 323 new positive cases yesterday.

The figure brings to 237 the total number of fatalities in the state to date while the number of positive cases stands at 39,651.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of the 323 new cases, Kuching accounted for 59 cases, followed by Miri (45); 43 each in Sibu and Bintulu; Selangau (28); Samarahan (25); Kapit (16); Sarikei (13); Serian (11); Mukah (eight); Julau (six); Sri Aman (five); four each in Subis and Meradong; Kanowit (three); two each in Pusa, Tanjung Manis and Song; and one each in Tatau, Lundu, Beluru and Asajaya.

“The breakdown of the new cases revealed that 207 were individuals who had contacts with positive Covid-19 cases (nine were symptomatic); 44 were from other screenings at health facilities (three were symptomatic); 40 were from symptomatic individual screenings at health facilities; and 32 were linked to existing active clusters (seven were symptomatic),” said SDMC.

On the other hand, the committee said, 491 patients had recovered and were discharged yesterday.

106 cases were from Sibu Hospital and its Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC); Miri Hospital and its PKRC (100); Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (95); Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (63); Sarawak General Hospital and its PKRC (45); Mukah PKRC (34); Betong PKRC (18); Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (16); Serian PKRC (seven); Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC (five); and Limbang Hospital (two).

“That brings the total number of recoveries in the state to 32,826 to date.

“In terms of active cases, 6,499 are still receiving treatment at various hospitals and PKRCs statewide.

“Meanwhile, 327 new persons-under-investigation (PUIs) were recorded today with five PUIs waiting for laboratory test results,” added SDMC.
