SERIAN: An 11-door longhouse with 15 families at Kampung Sekendu near Simunjan town was gutted by fire at about 11.30pm last Wednesday.

Although the longhouse residents could not save any of their properties, they were fortunate as no human casualty was reported.

Following a message received from a member of the Catholic Youth Ministry, Cik Monica Sherly Gelyn who lives in the area, Fr. Joseph Chai of the St Theresa’s Church here immediately informed the chairman of the Parish Council, Dennis Sung.

A team comprising church Rector, Fr. Paul Herry, Fr Joseph Chai, Parish Council Chairman, Dennis Sung, Publicity Chief Joseph Then and a member Robert Ho then went to the scene last Thursday bring with them foodstuff and clothing for the fire victims. The team also thanked Anthony Bong for providing them lunch at his shop.

Fr Paul Herry is appealing for donations from members of the public for the fire victims.

On arrival Rector Fr. Paul Herry handed over the foodstuff and clothing to Chairman of the Village Chapel (KGK), William Liam on behalf of the fire victims.
