KUCHING: The Recycle, Restyle Fashion Competition 2024 held at VivaCity Megamall here recently was a success and turned the space into a hub of creativity and sustainability.
Organised by Persatuan Penggerak Kesedaran Perubahan Iklim (Regenerative X Association), the event was a celebration of recycle fashion, drawing participants and attendees from Kuching, Sibu, and Bintulu.
“The event began with a warm welcome from the organising chairman, Eilin Ngu, who emphasised the significance of sustainable fashion and how the competition inspires designers to innovate with recycled materials.
“The audience was treated to a dynamic fashion show featuring 19 talented participants from ages 13-21 years old who presented unique designs made from recycled materials.
“The creativity on display transformed everyday waste into stunning fashion pieces, showcasing the potential of eco-friendly design,” Regenerative X said in its press release.
It then added that in addition to the fashion competition, the event featured two engaging panel discussions.
“The first, titled ‘Reuse and Recycle in Fashion,’ included experts Joseph Ting from Atas Sepakat Recycling Centre and Feliciti Jeffry from SustaiNation.
“They discussed the crucial role of recycling and upcycling in fashion, highlighting how these practices contribute to waste reduction and inspire creative design.
“The second panel, ‘Making Fashion Sustainable,’ featured Dr Yong Leong Kong from Curtin University, Dr Marzie Hatef Jalil from Unimas, and Ang Tse Chwan from YourgutBB.
“This discussion focused on how fashion can become more sustainable, consumerism and the importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles in the industry,” it added.
It then stated that the event is more than a fashion competition; it’s a platform for awareness and education.
“By combining fun and creativity, the association aims to inspire new perspectives on waste and sustainability and urged everyone to rethink, recycle, and restyle for a better tomorrow,” it said.
Regenerative X added that the award ceremony was a highlight of the Recycle, Restyle Fashion Competition 2024, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of the participants.
