KUCHING: The Welfare, Health & Community Sub-Committee of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Branch recently visited two underprivileged families in Permyjaya and Tudan Desaras, offering support and educational talks.
Dr. Uma Devi, the chairperson of the Sub-Committee, provided a comprehensive talk focusing on the dangers of plastic use, the importance of cleanliness, and the benefits of healthy eating, aiming to raise awareness among the family members about these critical health and environmental issues.
Following Dr. Uma’s presentation, Roslan Ali, representing the Miri City Council (MCC), briefed the families on the services available through the council and advised on how to communicate their concerns effectively.
“During the visit, the team distributed stainless-steel food containers to the families, emphasising the health risks associated with plastic containers,” said MRC in a statement today (Feb 26).
The initiative, supported by anonymous donors who provided stainless-steel containers, along with food and baby essentials such as diapers and milk, was praised by the MRC for their generosity.
The team of seven volunteers included Dr. Uma, the MRC Miri Welfare Health and Community Service chairperson; Norlina Suileong and VP Govindasamy, committee members; Roslan Ali and Mohd Shobri from the MCC; and MRC Miri staff, Randai Miang and Zaiful Abdullah.
