SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian services this year.

MRCS Sibu chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee said that as a start, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) rolled out its first Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration today (Feb 18).

“This is the first time our branch has organised this festive celebration ceremony. Because my committee members feel that it is time to change to suit the present situation,” he said during the event held at the MRCS Sibu headquarters.

Chua emphasised the importance of involving the youth in MRCS Sibu’s activities to groom future leaders.

He also said that the NGO plans to host open house events for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, and Christmas.

Also present were MRCS Sibu advisor Datuk Lau Ngie Hua, vice-chairperson Dr. Rachel Teng.
