BAU: The Association of Research and Development Movement of Singai Sarawak (Redeems) will start constructing the Bidayuh Cultural Village costing between RM8 and RM10 million in the next few months which will become a new attraction in the Singai area here.
Redeems president, Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie said the Bidayuh Cultural Village (Kampung Budaya Bidayuh), which resembles Sarawak Cultural Village, to be built at Kampung Apar will have a large Bidayuh longhouse as its main attraction.
“We will build the Bidayuh Cultural Village at a cost of between RM8 and RM10 million by having a large longhouse with a two-acre wide ‘tanju’ and the largest among the longhouses here (Redeems Centre),” he said when officiating the Gawai Redeems 2017 Carnival and Redeems’ 20th Anniversary at Redeems Centre in Singai, here, yesterday.
Nansian said it is expected that the construction of the cultural village could be completed within two or three years for the use of the Bidayuh people in Singai to hold community activities including Gawai celebrations.
“In the next two or three years we will no longer hold the Gawai celebration here (Redeems Centre) but will hold it in the new longhouse at the Bidayuh Cultural Village,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nansian also announced that Redeems will also build six units of four-storey shophouse block in the Singai area to rent out to traders to generate income for the association.
“Soon we will also sign an agreement with a China company worth RM5 million to carry out bamboo furniture manufacturing activities,” he said.
Redeems has a 39-acre bamboo plantation in the area.
