KUCHING: Reev Ronol of Kolej Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji (DPAH) Abdillah has been named as the Best Player for the category of Under-14 Boys in the National Rugby Development Programme (NRDP) East Malaysia Schools 7s which was held at the Song Kheng Hai (SKH) rugby field at Padungan, here, on Aug 11 and 12.

There were a total of 24 teams taking part in this second edition of the NRDP which was organised by the National Sports Council and Youths and Sports Ministry, in collaboration with Malaysia Rugby, Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia, Sarawak Education Department, and Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU). Kolej DPAH Abdillah was one of the six teams which participated in this category which comprised of SMK Agama SHOAW B, MRSM Kuching, SMK Tarat, SMK Asajaya and SMK SHOAW A.

In the Under-16 Girls category, Suelin Yusri of SMK Asajaya excelled in the Touch Rugby games while Saiful Daniel Mohd Khairi of SMKA SHOAW emerged as the Best Player in the Under-16 Boys category.

Altogether, there were 12 teams participating in the Touch Rugby Girls Under 16, namely the teams from SMK Muara Tuang B, SMK Tarat, MRSM Kuching A, MRSM Kuching B, SMK Asajaya and AMK Muara Tuang A. In the Boys Under 16 category, the 12 teams participating were SMK SHOAW A, SMK Wira Penrissen, Kolej Vokasional Matang, MRSM Kuching, SM Teknik Sejingkat, SMK Tebedu, SMK Tarat, SMK Asajaya, SMS Kuching Utara, Kolej DPAH Abdillah, SMKA SHOAW B and SMK Hajah Laila Taib. The main objective of NRDP East Malaysia Schools 7s is to unearth new talents in East Malaysia, with the hope that those players will impress the talent scouting team from NRDP. SRU sponsored this second edition of the tournament.
