Referees fee to be standardised

KUCHING: The chairman of Sarawak Referee, Duke Ak Janteng said the referees payment of services when judging a match in the division level is fixed at maximum RM180.

According to Duke, the fee has been standardised as specified by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

“I would like to explain here that the ceiling price for a service fee of referees is RM150 (for three people) and up to RM180 for one game.

“The set price is for divisional level and is determined by the FAM,” said Duke at a press conference in Conference Room State Stadium in Petra Jaya recently.

With the explanation, Duke hoped it can provide knowledge to all parties in particular whether the clubs and associations.

This is also to avoid confusion among the public, especially sports enthusiasts of this world number one sport, why the remuneration of ‘referees’ are at such prices.

Meanwhile, Duke said they would intensify referee development programme throughout the state.  He said efforts and approaches are expected to be implemented in the field to provide the referees services not only in division level, but also at state and even at the national level.

“The programme will intensify the development of referees in future. With the aim to produce referees who can meet the needs at various levels to the highest level tournament,” Duke added.

He said their target is towards young people and hoped the career as a referee can to contribute to economic growth. Sarawak currently has a total of 480 referees across the state, including 12 referees have a license at the national level.

Meanwhile, at the same time is a presentation ceremony of a referee license to some referees and handing over of sponsorship from the Lea Sports Centrs (LSC).

Present at the ceremony were FAS secretary general, Razali Dolhan, honorary secretary of Sibu Division Football Association (SFA), ASP Kushairy Bujang and a representative of Lea Sports Centre (LSC).

Duke thanked FAS under the leadership of Dato Posa Majais for given trust to him to became the chairman of the State Referee as well as the support given by the LSC.
