SIBU: The change from Chief Minister to Premier and Assistant Minister to Deputy Minister would reflect the true and proper status of Sarawak in Malaysia, according to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chief Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
He said it would be part of the move towards restoring and maintaining Sarawak’s autonomy into the future
In a statement on Saturday (Feb 19), he said, “The change is not cosmetic but a move to adjust to Sarawak’s status in the Federation of Malaysia as one a partner of Malaya and Sabah.
“Unfortunately, six members of the opposition in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) did not support the amendment Bill which was passed on Feb 15,” he said.
Tiang, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Assistant Minister II, said an opposition member even disrespectfully equated the title of Premier with certain tissue paper brand.
The Pelawan assemblyman also said the amendment was also related to the meaning of ‘Sarawak First’ slogan of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
