MIRI: Bus operations in the state have been temporarily stopped effective yesterday upon an advice from the Ministry of Health.

Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who revealed this, said the regional bus services were suspended temporarily starting today.

“Today, only one bus company is operating, but tomorrow all the regional buses services will be suspended temporarily until further notice from the government under its the movement control order (MCO),” he said.

“Besides the relevant government agencies, all Sarawakians have an important role to play during this critical period to prevent the spread of Covid-19. It is imperative that we cooperate and work closely in unison and comply with the various measures introduced by the authorities.”

Lee added that the movement restriction introduced under MCO and other health measures would inevitably cause inconvenience and at times frustration.

However, they are necessary measures based on experience of countries facing the Covid-19 menace such as China.

“Please stay calm and do not panic. This is a crucial period to help each other; forget our temporary inconveniences; stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel; practise social distancing; no mass gathering; no fake news, no rumours, no finger pointing, no politics and no cheap publicity,” he said.
