MUKAH: Associations, clubs and organisations within the Tellian State Legislative Assembly (DUN) are required to be registered as a prerequisite to apply for funds and allocations.
This mandatory action is aimed at ensuring legality and adherence to existing laws, according to Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.
He stressed the importance of registering these entities before seeking funds or allocations at both the state assembly and parliamentary levels.
He stated that registration is necessary to ensure the legality of associations, clubs, and organisations, especially those involved in activities and sports.
“One key reason for registration is that it allows associations to collect membership fees if their validity is established.
“This process helps prevent financial misappropriation and ensures prudent use of funds by maintaining detailed expense records.”
Royston highlighted that submitting financial reports establishes transparency and accountability, making the club or organisation eligible for selection criteria in youth organization categories.
He encouraged the entities to propose or undergo audits by the State Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU) if necessary, particularly when dealing with grant funds.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the MYKB Klik Programme here last Sunday (Aug 20), which aimed to raise awareness about the Sports Development Act 1997 and improve participants’ understanding of office roles, he emphasised that registration would streamline financial management and maintain integrity within associations and clubs.
A total of 42 participants from 28 associations and clubs in the Mukah region attended the programme.
It focused on enhancing participants’ comprehension of meeting management procedures, basic financial report preparation, and their responsibilities to the Sports Commissioner’s Office.
