KUCHING: The centralisation of Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISBH) members at rehabilitation centres has received a positive response, four days after the registration system opened last Monday.

Director general of the Malaysian Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM), Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee, said that while there have been responses from members, he declined to reveal the exact number of registrations during the four days since it opened to the public.

“There are (GISBH members registering)… but we are referring to the current status, with the first group expected to consist of hundreds, as announced by the deputy director of the National Security Council (MKN),” he disclosed.

Confirming the matter during a press conference at the Regional Islamic Higher Education Symposium (SIPTIS) at the Sarawak State Library Auditorium here on Thursday, he emphasised that registration is still open.

“Insha’ Allah, once we have the appropriate numbers, we will begin the rehabilitation process.

“The National Security Council will oversee the first phase based on the number of online registrations, and once we have enough participants, we will begin in the near future,” he said.

Registration is open for 30 days, from Oct 14 to Nov 14 this year.

Earlier on Oct 14, deputy director general of National Security, Datuk Baharuddin Ahmad, announced that the government had established more than 20 rehabilitation centres across the country to accommodate GISBH members.

He stated that the centres, managed in collaboration with MKN, the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM), JAKIM, and several other agencies, are part of an initiative to help them return to the true teachings of Islam.

Baharuddin revealed that an estimated 10,500 GISBH members exist nationwide, based on records received.

“This programme will be implemented gradually over 90 days at selected government training centres, with accommodations, food, and drinks provided throughout the period.

“To achieve this goal, all GISBH members across the country, whether in Sabah or Sarawak, are invited to participate in comprehensive skills training and rehabilitation in areas such as faith, law, education, health, and nationhood.

“For family members (parents, children), we will not separate them and will strive to provide accommodations for them to stay together,” he added.
