SIBU: Members of the public here have given good response to the new Sunday market site at Taman Indah here since it was relocated from Taman Mahsuri on Aug 1.
Despite reservations about this locality amongst the traders, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting and SMC Market & Petty Traders (MPT) committee went ahead with the move.
“It has been two and half months, and throughout the rainy weather, this market has been well accepted by the public.
“According to Cr. Jiram Marden, this morning at 6am, the turnout was very good. Most people here seem to have accepted this Sunday Market,” he said when being pressed for comments by reporters on Saturday (Oct 17).
On top of that, the traders are enjoying good business, Ting pointed out.
He noted that they were happy with the relocation as they had suffered closure for four and half months without any income. Now most traders are doing well, he added.
“I am also happy with the situation and the market traders here who have kept the place clean by themselves with little work from SMC staff.
“This must continue, as cleanliness of the market is the most important for the public and in fact a great attraction for them,” he said.
