KUCHING: The state government is actively seeking new residences for the victims affected by the recent fire in Kampung Tabuan Cemerlang.
Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, the Minister for Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, highlighted that these new homes will facilitate families in sending their children to nearby schools with greater ease.
“We are currently working with the Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the local authorities to identify homes near the respective schools,” said Fatimah.”Before relocating these victims, who are currently residing in temporary relief centres (PPS) along with their families, we must obtain consent from the heads of households. The new homes must be conveniently located to ensure the well-being of the affected families,” she explained.
Fatimah, addressing reporters after distributing donations at Dewan Dato Sri Dr Hj Wan Junaidi on Friday (August 30), also mentioned that additional financial aid, particularly in covering rental expenses for those transitioning to new homes, will be provided through the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme.
She assured that the SWD would assist the victims in recovering important documents lost during the fire incident by guiding them through the necessary procedures, including obtaining police reports and new identification documents promptly.
Moreover, Fatimah disclosed that RM12,700 in donations had been allocated to the victims based on the number of individuals per household. During her visit to the PPS, cash aid and essential items were distributed to those affected.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday (August 27), a morning fire engulfed two wooden houses in Kampung Tabuan Cemerlang, Jalan Setia Raja, displacing 49 residents. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as all occupants were safely evacuated. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
