Remand for suspect in tailor’s death extended

KUCHING: The remand order for a man linked to a cold-blooded murder of the owner of a well-known tailor shop in Tun Jugah here has been extended for another five days from today (July 28 to Aug 1).

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the remand order extension for the 28-year-old suspect was issued by Court Registrar Aida Montong to facilitate investigations of the victim identified as Wong Sie Tuang, whose body was found in a suitcase on a riverbank in Kampung Pangkalan, Bau recently.

The dead body was found blindfolded, with his head, hands and feet bound with yellow adhesive tape.

The remand period of the suspect expired yesterday (July 27).

On July 20, the suspect was placed under seven days remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The man was placed under custody after he came to the Kuching District Police Headquarters on the night the body was discovered (July 19).

He was subsequently arrested following an interrogation. He is believed to be the last person accompanying the victim inside the vehicle before the victim disappeared.

Poge also pointed out that police are still tracking for other suspects in connection with the murder case.

In a related development, state CID chief SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai said police have found victim’s phone and its cover in a drain at Lorong Chawan 12, and more gathering of evidence was ongoing.

It is believed that the victim’s mobile phone was removed by the killer.

So far, two suspects have been arrested, a 28-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman to facilitate investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
