SIBU: The world mourns the loss of Akira Toriyama, the visionary behind the iconic Dragon Ball series and other seminal anime works, who has passed away at the age of 68.

Since its inception in 1984, Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga has captivated audiences globally, leading to highly successful anime adaptations, video games, and movies.

The news of Toriyama’s demise has struck a chord far beyond Japan, resonating deeply in countries including Malaysia.

In Sarawak, fans have taken to social media to express their grief, like Deputy Health Minister and Sibuti MP Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni sharing personal tributes.

“Characters like Son Goku, Piccolo, Majin Buu, Arale, and Mr. Slump have been a part of my life since childhood. I cherished collecting all 42 volumes of the Dragon Ball comics. My heartfelt thanks to Toriyama-san,” Lukanisman said in a recent Facebook post.

He further highlighted the widespread influence of Toriyama’s work, acknowledging its profound impact on countless individuals across the globe and its lasting legacy.

The internet has seen an outpouring of tributes, including edited images of Dragon Ball characters mourning the loss of their creator, which have captured the collective imagination.

Bird Studio announced Toriyama’s passing on March 1 due to a brain blood clot, expressing sorrow over the unfinished projects he left behind.

“His departure is a great loss, as he had much more to contribute. Nevertheless, he leaves behind a rich legacy of manga and artworks,” the studio said.

The studio thanked Toriyama’s fans for their unwavering support over his 45-year career, hoping his creative universe will continue to be cherished for years to come.
