LUNDU: The services of former chief minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem or Tok Nan, were commemorated at a food basket presentation ceremony here yesterday.
The event was officiated by the State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.
Asfia stated in his speech that the distribution of food baskets at the ceremony was a symbol of appreciation for Tok Nan’s services and greatness as the chief minister and Tanjong Datu assemblyman in bringing many changes and developments to the area.
He urged everyone present to continue supporting the incumbent for Tanjong, Adenan’s widow, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, to ensure continued progress in the area.
“In the history of Tanjong Datu, there has never been developments like those we are experiencing now. They were brought about by the late Tok Nan and are being carried out by his wife, Jamilah,” said Asfia.
Meanwhile, Jamilah revealed, in her welcoming speech, that 115 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects worth RM25,550,000 and 295 Sarawak Poor Housing Improvement Projects (PPRMS) worth RM3 million were implemented in Tanjong Datu between 2017 and 2021.
“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has also approved 18 People’s Projects (Projek Rakyat) worth RM88,038,002, while 103 Minor Rural Project (MRP) projects and 16 Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) projects will also be implemented in this area,” she said.
At the event, Asfia donated RM150,000 for the distribution of food baskets to the needy, non-governmental organisations (NGOs)and Community Rehabilitation Centres (PPDK).
At the event, 20 village chiefs in the Tanjong Datu area also received the food basket donations.
Also present were a political secretary to the Chief Minister Bujang Helmi Hazmi, Lundu District Officer Gustian Durani and the PBB Youth chief for Tanjong Datu, Azizul Annuar Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.
