KUCHING: More than 150 participants attended the Malaysian Occupational Therapists National Conference (MOTNC) 2018 which is held from 25 to 27 April here at Riverside Majestic Hotel.
Director of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Dr Chin Zin Hing, who represented the Director of State Health Department, Dr Jamilah Hashim, said that it meant a lot to the occupational therapy service in Sarawak for this year’s conference to be held here.
“Holding it in Kuching not only allows more occupational therapists in Sarawak to participate but at the same time, it creates opportunities for those from other regions of Malaysia to appreciate the challenges of occupational therapy service delivery in the state,” he explained.
However, he added that they still have many challenges ahead of them, such as reaching out to those in remote longhouses and villages.
“This is the most challenging with the existing resources that we have – manpower and facilities, if we do things the conventional way.
“I believe that the Occupational Therapist fraternity, especially for those of you in Sarawak, can be proactive by initiating and getting involved in the state’s digital economy strategy.
“Don’t wait for instructions on what you should do to reach out to more people who need your services, especially in the remote parts of Sarawak,” he said during the launching ceremony of the conference here yesterday.
Among those present were MOTNC 2018 chairperson, Jalina Ismail and Malaysian Occupational Therapy Association president, Dr Mohd Zulkifli Abdul Rahim.
