KUCHING: In a move aimed at aligning with halal standards and enhancing industrial image, the Mara Industrial Area (KIM) at Demak Laut has been renamed as Mara Halal Industrial (MHI) Park Demak Laut.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) Datuk Rubiah Wang said the renaming signifies a commitment to safer production practices and aims to empower entrepreneurs within the industry.
Speaking to reporters at a breaking of fast event with KKDW agencies at the Waterfront Hotel, she highlighted the potential of Mara entrepreneurship in generating substantial income for entrepreneurs.
“I am very confident that with the comprehensive entrepreneurship capabilities and ecosystem, along with Mara’s extensive experience, it will help entrepreneurs generate good income,” she said at the breaking of fast event with KKDW agencies at the Waterfront Hotel here, last night (Apr 3).
She was impressed by the success of Mara entrepreneurs in Sarawak, with sales revenue hitting RM62,236,508 by Dec 31, 2023, and providing employment opportunities for 970 locals.
The MHI Park Demak Laut, established since 2002, comprises two twin factory lots and 18 terrace factory lots initially focused on automotive, services, lifestyle, and food and beverage processing industries.
The products of existing tenants have made significant strides in international markets including Singapore, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Australia, and New Zealand.
During the event, Rubiah distributed lease offer letters to six new tenants, presented mock cheques to three recipients of business financing facilities, and offered letters to two recipients of Mara Halal BEST Grant Certifications.
Zakat money contributions from Mara subsidiary, Rural Capital Berhad (RCB), were also presented to 20 recipients, reflecting Mara’s commitment to community welfare.
