KOTA NGABANG, Kalimantan, Indonesia: Ever tried python rendang? “Python rendang is more delicious than the regular chicken rendang,” said a visitor to Kota Ngabang in conjunction with the Naik Dango Festival.
Lina Kunjak, who was part of a delegation from Sarawak Dayak Association said python rendang is one of the unique dishes of the Dayak people living in the city of Ngabang, where the Bentayan ethnic group forms the majority.
“Although I did not eat the rendang (because of taboo), according to a group of friends, the menu is quite unique because it is the main menu served to the guests,” she said, adding that they had lunch at Kembayan.
Departing as early as 7am on Thursday, the trip took three hours from Entikong border in Tebedu to reach Kota Ngabang.
Throughout the journey, the author noted that oil palm and black pepper cultivations are the major economic activity of the people. In the evening, they were welcomed with cultural performances at Rumah Radang.
The delegation was led by Pak Abet Sego, the Dayak Bidayuh community representative, and Victor Ason (representative from Dayak Bukit Kelingkang and Sarawak Dayak Association).
The group is expected to arrive for the Naik Dango Festival today, where thousands of Dayak in Kabupaten Landak will gather.
