SINGAPORE: The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) proudly announced the successful conclusion of its three months photo exhibition at the STATOS Gallery, 80 Robinson Road here.
Running from January 15 to March 31 this year, the exhibition showcased the stunning landscapes and vibrant culture of Sarawak through the lenses of renowned Singaporean photographers Julian W, Jennice Ong, and Guek Peng Siong.
STATOS in a statement said the exhibition not only featured captivating photographs but also included four special photography talks.
These sessions offered insights into the beauty of Sarawak and the photographers’ unique experiences, aimed at promoting Sarawak tourism and engaging visitors with the stories behind each image.
The highlight of the exhibition was the opportunity for the public to purchase the photographs, with all proceeds directed towards a charitable cause.
The funds raised were used to enhance the comfort of the “ruai” (the communal hall) at Rumah Sambon in Nanga Kesit, a traditional Iban longhouse in Lubok Antu, approximately 240 kilometres from Kuching.
This longhouse, home to 27 families, was named in honour of its current chief, Sambon Jampang.
The longhouse, while modernised with treated water and electricity, needed improvements to address the heat and humidity especially during the hot season.
STATOS used the exhibition to fund the purchase and installation of 27 wall fans for the “ruai”.
“For its success, STATOS would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who purchased the photographs during the exhibition and supported this initiative.
“Special thanks goes to Ms Aw and her husband for their generous contributions, which went a long way towards realising the noble cause,” the statement said.
STATOS also noted that the success of the event highlighted the strong community spirit and how the power of art can drive positive change.
“STATOS remains committed to its vision to promote Sarawak tourism and support community development through innovative and impactful initiatives.”
