The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government must be fair in its policies, especially when it involves farmers in Sarawak.
Gerald Rentap Jabu (GPS-Layar) said Sabah smallholders had received RM42 million aid as announced last week by the Finance Minister, and queried why Sarawakians were not even considered.
“The stable price support system for farmers was a promise in your PH manifesto.
“But why were the people in Sabah given the priority? Please be fair to Sarawak,” he said when debating the Head of State’s opening address yesterday.
Rentap added the mainstream economic activity in his constituency was farming, namely of pepper, rubber, oil palm and paddy.
“In the light of the low commodity prices, I urge both the state and federal governments to provide aid to our farmers. And maybe I should pose this to our PH YBs who represent us in Parliament,” he said.
On drug abuse issues, Rentap said they happened both in the urban and rural areas.
“I urge the federal government to strengthen the laws such as the Dangerous Drug Acts 1952 because often, drug distributors are caught and released without being charged.
“This sometimes goes beyond logic, especially the new law on anti-smoking; if smokers are caught breaking the law, they would be fined f RM10,000 and jailed for two years,” he said.
Rentap also thanked members of PH Sarawak for supporting the motion on the amendment of the Federal Constitution tabled by Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
“This shows maturity and knowing what is blatantly good and correct must be supported wholeheartedly, rather than being minions and Yes man to their political masters.
“We should stand tall in our common goals to protect Sarawak rights.”
