KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap is urging residents in his constituency who need assistance with home repairs to apply for the Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak (PPRMS).

Yap disclosed this during a visit to a house in Kota Sentosa yesterday, which had received support under the program.

He was accompanied by Kapitan Chai Yong Liang as they conducted a final inspection of the repair works carried out on the home.

The house, located at Lorong 1, Stampin Resettlement Scheme, belongs to an unemployed couple with five children.

The repairs, which included the roofing, cement walls, cement flooring, and the installation of new windows, were completed using RM15,000 in financial assistance provided through PPRMS.

The refurbishment work was conducted on a gotong royong basis, with volunteers from the JKKK Kampung Stampin Baru Cina participating in the effort.

Yap had learned of the family’s challenging circumstances about a month earlier, following a distress call from a concerned member of the public.

“The situation was urgent and dire,” Yap said, recalling his initial visit and the family’s need for immediate assistance.

“I am thankful to Kapitan Chai Yong Liang for organising the gotong royong and to all the volunteers who gave their time and effort. Their dedication demonstrated our unity, resilience, compassion, and care for the less fortunate.”

PPRMS is a Sarawak government initiative providing up to RM15,000 in financial assistance to those living below the poverty line or from low-income groups.

The program aims to improve basic living conditions and offer hope for a better quality of life.

Yap remains committed to the well-being of his constituents, always prioritising their welfare and extending a helping hand to the less fortunate in Kota Sentosa.

Residents who need assistance through PPRMS can contact community leaders in N12 Kota Sentosa for more information or visit Yap’s Service Centre at E-2-25, 2nd Floor, Gala Street Mall, Gala City, Jalan Tun Jugah, Kempas Heights, Kuching.
