TATAU: The people of Sarawak need to change their traditional ways of thinking to be on par with the ever changing rapid development that is happening around the world, to improve their socioeconomy.

Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said this traditional thinking was more prevalent in the fields of agriculture and education.

“In the past, the community focused mainly on agricultural activities to provide food for the family.

“But now with modern technology, agriculture should be used as a source of economic income by way of commercialising their crops,” he said.

Sikie stated this in his speech at the Community Randau Programme organised by Anap Muput Makah Komuniti at Rumah Jana, in Tatau, yesterday.

In that regard, he who is also the Kakus assemblyman pointed out in the past, parents placed the full responsibility on the shoulders of a teacher to educate their children.

“Unlike now, parents need to be proactive in educating their children in many facets if life. Parents also need to keep abreast of their child’s progress at school through discussions with teachers,” he said.
