KAPIT: Pelagus State Assemblyman for Wilson Nyabong Ijang announced a minor rural project (MRP) grant worth RM5,000 to PERKEP (Police Social Welfare Recreational and Sports Club) Kapit.
The money is to be used in carrying out their activities for the year. He made the announcement at a gathering dubbed ‘Malam Mesra PERKEP 2017’ organised by the club held at the multipurpose hall Sri Baleh here recently.
Held to coincide with the PERKEP annual general meeting earlier in the day, the function was also to welcome a new officer namely Inspector Ugendran Nesaratnam who joins the CID (Criminal Investigation Department).
Speaking at the function Nyabong commended Kapit police for being able to maintain close rapport with the ‘elected people’s representatives’ and also to maintain close cooperation with the government departments and agencies.
“Kapit police have done well. You maintain close rapport with the ‘elected people’s representatives’ and also have close cooperation with the government departments and agencies. Your good networking has help to promote and strengthen community policing,” said Nyabong.
Being an uniformed body the police are the leading agency to enforce the rules and regulations looking after the peace and security of the local community where they serve, he pointed out.
“Hence it is important to uphold the highest level of integrity to execute one’s responsibilities, “added Nyabong.
Earlier the chairperson of PERKEP Kapit, Bibiana Michel Diway in her speech welcomed all guests to the ‘Malam Mesra PERKEP 2017’ and thanked all dinner sponsors.
Present at the gathering were the various heads of departments led by Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong Punan and District Officer Elvis Didit. Others present were Kapit Police chief DSP Freddy Bian, Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga and senior police officers namely ASP Chua Su Hua, ASP MakkaranuBeddu, ASP FauzanKasim, ASP JawieHamatta, Inspector Mohd Firdaus Mahadi, Inspector Muhd NizamIzhar, Inspector Isan Sari and Inspector Ugendran Nesaratnam.
