SARIKEI: A total of 1,253 selected students from Kuala Rajang have received education aid totalling RM528,900 to enable them to pursue further studies in institutions of higher learning since 2011.
Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, said this year alone, RM32,200 was donated to 80 outstanding students to further their studies.
He added that the education aid was aimed at easing the financial burden faced by parents in sending their children for further studies.
The selected students would each receive RM400 for those pursuing diploma courses, RM500 (degree) and RM300 (for short-term study).
“Most of them are from low and middle income families who need financial assistance to further their education,” he said when presenting education aid to students from Kuala Rajang yesterday.
Len said although the aid was not much, it would certainly help relief the financial burden faced by poor families.
He said the initiative was one of his commitments to help high-achieving and underprivileged students pursue tertiary education towards ensuring a better future for themselves and their families.
