SIBU: The Sibu Division has the most number of community leaders among other divisions in the state.
Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said this reflected the high demand for their services by the local community.
“As you all know, Sibu is a very close-knitted community and the roles of the community leaders vary and they represent various clans and different layers of community,” he said at a certificate presentation ceremony to five re-appointed Chinese community leaders and two newly appointed community leaders for Pelawan constituency at the District office here today (Mar 27).
The five re-appointed community leaders are Kapitan So Teck Kee, Kapitan Song Ik Siu, Kapitan Kong Leh En, Kapitan Kho Chu Ing and Penghulu Lau Hieng Wuong while the other two newly appointed leaders are Kapitan Nee Chung Shyang and Kapitan Chua Kim Seng.
The Pelawan assemblyman congratulated the re-appointed community leaders for their commitment and dedication for their services.
He described their services as 7-eleven convenience stores because they were rendering services regardless of time and during weekends.
While also congratulating the newly appointed community leaders, he said they can always learn from their seniors on the commitment to serve the people.
“Community leaders are the bridges between the government and the people, and they serve very important link,” Tiang added.
Also present were Sibu District Officer Khalid Anong and Sibu Division Chinese paramount community leader, Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming.
