KUCHING: Surau Bidayatul Hidayah at Kampung Batu Perak here hosted a breaking of fast ceremony that was attended by prominent figures in the community, including Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
During the event, Yap handed out 150 boxes of kurma (dates), 30 bags of rice, and a grant of RM3,000 to the surau to support their religious activities throughout the month of Ramadan.
Ustaz Wan Lukmanhakim Wan Sajali of Ketua Aktivis Sahabat Amal Care Sarawak also donated 30 sets of cotton telekung (prayer garb) to the kampung folk.
In his speech, Yap expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to gather at the surau and emphasised the importance of togetherness and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood during the month of Ramadan.
“I take this opportunity to thank you very much for inviting me to this event. I hope that you will all be given health and personal well-being to go through fasting until the end.
“The main purpose of the breaking of fast ceremony is to create a spirit of togetherness and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the people’s representatives and residents of Kampung Batu Perak.
“I hope this event can strengthen our friendship and promote unity among us all in this blessed month,” he said during the event yesterday.
On the same note, Yap encouraged everyone to take advantage of the month of Ramadan to reflect on their actions and seek repentance.
“I hope this month of Ramadan will bring a lot of repentance to all of you. Hopefully this ‘ibadah puasa’ can train us all to be more considerate individuals, besides giving birth to a clean and positive heart and mind.
“I also hope this month of Ramadan can indirectly teach us to always be grateful,” he added.
The event was a testament to the community’s dedication to promoting unity and religious practises during the month of Ramadan.
It showcased the spirit of togetherness and generosity that is essential for the success of any community.
