SARIKEI: Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii recently made a working visit to the residents of 11 longhouses in the Sungai Petai, Sungai Bulat, Sungai Selangan, Sungai Anyit, and Jalan Kwong Ming Minah areas.
The longhouses were Rumah Pitre Ambit, Rumah Jugah Dunggat, Rumah Nyalau Mamat, Rumah Bansa Nanggal, Rumah Banun Ansi, Rumah Sabah Sawong, Rumah Ugil Rebai, Rumah Simon Tedong, Rumah Rampai Timbang, Rumah Gimang Jandan, and Rumah Saka Angin.
During his visit, Huang listened to the problems of the local community, discussed on the issues they faced, and outlined strategies to improve their living standards.
Huang, who is also the Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman, expressed concerns about the condition of the longhouses and allocated funds for essential repairs, including replacing roofs, floors, ceilings, mats, fans, rainwater troughs, and other necessities.
He lauded that this support allows him to serve the people more effectively.
Huang also noted that development in both urban and rural areas around Sarikei is actively being carried out, including road improvements and drainage systems to ensure that every segment of society receives proper attention and care.
He added that the Sarawak government has allocated funds to strengthen basic infrastructure, support religious development, build schools, and improve the people’s overall living standards.
