KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has assured that the land dispute involving a 67-year-old man in Asajaya will be resolved amicably.

“I have informed the Premier and spoken to the lawyers involved,” the Asajaya assemblyman said after officiating at the Sarawak Youth Start-Up event today (Nov 13).

“God willing, this matter will be resolved amicably.”

Abdul Karim hoped that the court would thoroughly examine the issue, noting that he was unaware of the situation until recently.

“Although I have been the assemblyman here for some time, no one had informed me about this issue, and I only just found out,” he added.

He urged the court to handle the matter transparently, given its sensitivity.

“Since the matter is already in court, I consider it sub judice to comment in detail,” he said.

The land dispute gained public attention after Tan Khi Mong discovered that his 1.901-hectare land in Asajaya had been encroached upon without his permission.

Residential houses and a surau had been constructed on the land.

Tan, the registered landowner, has filed an originating summons in the High Court to regain possession of the land.
